Joy and Meaning in Physical Education
Physical Educators may generally agree on the purpose for our subject to be guiding students to become physically literate individuals who pursue healthy and active lifestyles across their lifespan. However, there is less consensus on how that is achieved. In many contents, time is devoted to teaching students about the utility of health and movement or exposing students to as many fun activities as possible. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with these approaches, they may fall short in helping students develop a powerful connection and experience one of the most powerful human emotions - joy.   During this session teacher's will learn about joy-oriented philosophy and research advocating for it's approach. Attendees will also take away effective teaching strategies utilized by educators around the world that place greater emphasis on joy & meaning.

The Intersectionality of Health & Human Sexuality
This presentation will discuss how to create a more welcoming and inclusive health classroom for all students. Together we will examine effective methods for introducing topics that are often forgotten such as BIPOC and 2SLGBTQ+ rights, as well as incorporating a richer and more authentic representation of Canadian health and sexuality both explicitly and implicitly. Teachers will come away with valuable lesson strategies, appropriate images and graphics for school communities, and an overview of inclusive language within the context of health education.
